We are York’s inclusive feminist activist group. We aim to keep this a safe, tolerant space and acknowledge that feminism is a learning experience and that we are all at different stages of our journey.  We hope that members will feel free to ask questions and that people will be happy to aid with discussions and signposting but recognise that it is no-one’s obligation or responsibility to educate us (particularly in matters of privilege). Though we want to welcome and encourage open and honest discussion, we  hold the following values at the heart of our group and these principles are not up for debate-

  • YFC is gender inclusive and respectful, and do not believe that a person’s gender identity is a matter for debate. Everyone is welcome here.
  • YFC is sex work and sex worker positive and inclusive
  • YFC strives to be intersectional and rejects the concept and discussion of ‘Reverse Racism’
  • YFC is for the whole community of York not just the universities
  • YFC exists as a place to come together for the primary objectives of solidarity and activism
  • YFC values of the lived experience of all of its members and seeks to acknowledge this by asking that content notes and trigger warnings are used as appropriate (more on this to follow when we ratify the guidelines for the group

We meet monthly, usually on a Thursday and also run one-off socials and campaigns. For further details of out meetings and events see the Events Page

In the coming weeks and months we will be looking to build the following and welcome suggestions via the relevant threads in our Facebook Group

  • A directory of local and national organisations we support
  • A comprehensive set of guidelines for the group and policy to follow if guidelines are breached
  • A library of feminist resources (links, articles etc) on core feminist topics to be
  • A list of potential actions and events to look at organising
